Still Life Paintings
A still life is an artistic composition that features non-living objects. Practicing still life paintings are a great way to learn how to paint. Although the objects appear simple they require knowledge of color mixing, blending and modeling of forms as well as creating different textures in paint. Most of the paintings featured below are actually considered "master studies". These paintings have already been painted by established still life artist. Students attempt to recreate the paintings to practice the various painting strategies and techniques.

Drawing Studies
Students practice drawing once per week or sometimes when they are in between projects and have extra time. These practice drawing s are called "Drawing Studies". Within these studies students are primarily practicing learning to draw what they see accurately. Drawing is a skill and takes practice like any other skill such a learning to play an instrument. Students work from an existing picture and may choose to use a grid to help them see shapes. More advanced students may choose not to use a grid. Shading is optional.
